Tanhaji👍. Panipat full movie online watch. Panipat movie public reaction. Panipat battle third. Panipat betrayal. Best film in the world. Panipat poster. 'Panipat' ultimately is overlong and unwieldly. Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker can’t seem to recreate the magic of his finest films. Last Updated: December 7, 2019, 8:40 PM IST Share this: Panipat Cast: Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Kriti Sanon Director: Ashutosh Gowariker Every few years it takes an Ashutosh Gowariker film to appreciate the concept and the existence of the interval in Hindi cinema. Gowariker’s track record with the success of his films has been uneven, but what’s been consistent is his inability to pare them down to a reasonable length. His latest, Panipat, could well be among his shortest at a bladder-bursting 2 hours and 53 minutes. Read: Pati Patni Aur Woh Movie Review: Kartik-Bhumi-Ananya Promise Plenty Laughs This film focuses on the third battle of Panipat waged between the Marathas and the Afghans, in which thousands of soldiers are believed to have died. It is significant also because it’s one of those films about a war in which we’re on the side of the vanquished. Few Hindi filmmakers are as fascinated with the past as Gowariker, and his passion for the subject at hand is ever so visible. But Panipat is also a lumbering epic. The script is dense, packed with too much information, too much research, and too many details. Every alliance, every betrayal, every strategy is dutifully and painstakingly documented…with an emphasis on pain. Arjun Kapoor stars as Sadashivrao Bhau who leads the Marathas into battle against the marauding Afghans, who in turn are led by Ahmad Shah Abdali (Sanjay Dutt). It is the story of great valour and courage, of strategy, and ultimately of sacrifice. The film’s agenda is clear – to celebrate the spirit of the great Marathas – and there are plenty rousing speeches to highlight that. But despite the unmistakable hyper-nationalistic tonality, Panipat doesn’t have the slickness of a film like 300, or the kinetic energy of Uri: The Surgical Strike. In fact it has all the excitement of a history lesson from your school textbook. Scripted from a combination of research and imagination, the film takes many creative liberties, one of which deserves special mention. There’s very little in history about Parvati Bai, Sadashivrao’s wife, played in the film by Kriti Sanon. Gowariker and his co-writers take the decision to flesh her out as a woman with agency. So Parvati Bai accompanies her husband and the troops on the road, she offers to initiate talks with a reluctant ruler whose support the Marathas need, she is her husband’s bouncing board, and a true ally. Kriti realises the character nicely, even if her styling appears a bit modern for those times. The men are let down by the stilted writing. You don’t get a sense of what’s going on in their heads or hearts beyond the obvious, so they never feel like fully carved out characters. Arjun Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt fill out their costumes, and deliver their lines, but we’re never able to pierce beyond their armour to get a glimpse of the vulnerability of these stony faced men going into battle. There is no doubt over the commitment and the effort that’s gone into crafting this film. Everywhere you look there are handsome sets, elaborate costumes, busy CGI battle scenes, and immaculate detail. The problem is they’re all in service of a plodding script that seldom rises above its own shortcomings. The film’s first half feels especially dry, but it gathers momentum post interval. The war scenes are impressive but never spectacular. Panipat ultimately is overlong and unwieldly. It may have its heart in the right place but its other organs are all over the place. Gowariker, who kept us engaged and invested through 3 hours and 40 minutes of Lagaan, or even through the genteel romance of Jodhaa Akbar, can’t seem to recreate the magic of his finest films. I’m going with a generous two out of five for Panipat. You come out feeling like you’ve survived war…just about. Panipat pin code. Panipat maratha. Panipat public review. Like any other year, 2019 was a roller-coaster ride filled with some significant, pleasantly surprising as well as astonishing events that took place and the manner in which some films performed at the box office. In a bid to understand this tumultuous and exciting year, we at Bollywood Hungama on a lighter note decided to redevelop the English alphabets from A-Z keeping in mind the important events of the year A – Akshay Kumar and Ayushmann Khurrana Both won hearts and also earned moolah with their films that were entertaining and yet thought-provoking. Coincidentally, both also played bald characters in Housefull 4 and Bala respectively. Not just that, both were even named Bala! B – Batla House, Bala and Badla All these films performed exceedingly well, way beyond their expectations. C – Chhichhore It is one of the biggest surprise hits of all times. It opened at just Rs. 7. 32 crore and went on to collect Rs. 153. 09 crore in its lifetime! D – Dabangg 3 One of the most awaited films of the year opened to a tepid response due to not-so-huge buzz and anti CAA protests across the country. The other Salman Khan starrer, Bharat, too underperformed. E – Eighty Three (’83) The shoot of one of the most anticipated films of 2020 got over in 2019. It’s a movie that is highly awaited by one and all and is expected to break many box office records F – Foreign films score huge The biggest grosser of the year turned out to be the Hollywood biggie Avengers: Endgame. It is the only film of the year to have crossed the Rs. 300 crore mark. Other films like The Lion King, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Captain Marvel, Joker, Frozen 2 etc also did huge business, even more than some big Bollywood films! G – Gully Boy It brought a new wave, and lingo, in our cinema. Its prestige got a boost when it was selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars. H – Hrithik Roshan The superstar finally had a reason to cheer in terms of box office. Both his films, Super 30 and War, were huge grossers. I – Inshallah This Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt -starrer was to be directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and was launched with much fanfare. Sadly, it got shelved even before it could go on floors. J – Judgementall Hai Kya This Kangana Ranaut starrer was talked about more for its controversies than the film’s content or box office performance. K – Kabir Singh Despite being an adult film and starring Shahid Kapoor who’s not a superstar, this film rewrote all rules at the box office. So impressed were the audiences, particularly youth, by this film and it’s soundtrack that they went again and again to experience the magic. As a result, it crossed Rs. 278. 24 crore, shocking even the most experienced of trade pundits! L – Lack of political will of celebs As the country was hit by one political controversy after another, a small section of stars voiced their opinions fearlessly on social media and even on offline platforms. But the bigger stars chose to look the other way, thereby earning the wrath of their fans. And there were some who happily posed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and later proclaimed they were ‘apolitical’. M – Mass and comedy films get acceptance Although new kind of films are being encouraged, a large population of moviegoers still don’t mind massy fares. Also, comedies remained a hot favourite. Despite scathing reviews, films like Total Dhamaal, Housefull 4, Saaho, Marjaavaan etc did very well, commercially. N – Nolan One of the most respected Hollywood directors, Christopher Nolan, shot for his upcoming film Tenet in Mumbai. The government, for the first time ever, put into place a single-window clearance. They themselves got the permissions from the police, fire brigade, various ministries etc. and got the whole process done in a week’s time, when it usually takes months! Nolan shot some key scenes in the city and finished the shoot before time. O – OTT The various OTT platforms continued to churn out series and films that became the talking point. P – Period and political films Period films like Kesari and Manikarnika – The Queen Of Jhansi were big hits commercially. But Panipat failed to set the box office on fire, despite a positive word of mouth, more or less. This year also saw political films that were released just before the elections like Uri: The Surgical Strike, The Accidental Prime Minister, Thackeray and The Tashkent Files. PM Narendra Modi tried to release right before the election time but was denied a release. It ultimately released on the day the results were declared. On the other hand, there was a film like Article 15 that wasn’t right-leaning. It received glowing reviews for its plot and performances. Q – Quality content became priority, post Netflix’s Drive debacle The giant streaming platform Netflix got slammed after it bought the long-delayed and poorly made flick Drive, starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez. The trolling was so extreme that reports confirmed that the team of Netflix decided to only take qualitative films from now on. R – Remixes The recreated versions continued to thrive and most of the big films had at least one such song. A film like Luka Chuppi had five songs, all of which were remixes! Vishal Dadlani raised the maximum voice against this practice, especially because of not giving credit to original composers and singers. S – Shah Rukh Khan The superstar ended 2018 with a disaster thanks to his film Zero. Throughout the year, he kept the media and fans guessing as to which film he’s signing next. The year is about to get over and still, no one can say for sure who gets to direct him next. T – Twitter and Instagram Twitter continued to be used as a platform by celebs to troll each other or to get trolled by netizens. As for Instagram, more and more artists began to use it to show to the world what are they wearing. A few handles of photographers have more followers than that of actors and users flock to their pages to see what actors have been wearing at the gyms and airports, particularly. U – Uri: The Surgical Strike Just like Kabir Singh, this was another surprise that came out of nowhere and marched into the Rs. 200 crore mark. ‘Hows the Josh? ’ became the national mantra. V – Vicky Kaushal and Vishal Jethwa Uri: The Surgical Strike’s lead Vicky Kaushal was already a popular name. But this action film made him a superstar of sorts. His upcoming films have suddenly become quite ‘garam’ thanks to him. Another actor who got noticed is Vishal Jethwa, the menacing villain of Mardaani 2, who played his part with perfection. W – War It is the biggest Bollywood grosser of 2019. Audiences had a ball witnessing Hrithik Roshan battling Tiger Shroff, their jugalbandi in ‘Jai Jai Shivshankar’ and of course, the big twist in the pre-climax! X – e(x)treme collections of films Films like Uri: The Surgical Strike, Total Dhamaal, Luka Chuppi, Badla, The Tashkent Files, Kabir Singh, Article 15, Super 30, Chhichhore, Dream Girl, Saaho, Housefull 4 and Mission Mangal performed very well at the box office, exceeding expectations. However films like Why Cheat India, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, Sonchiriya, Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, Kalank, India’s Most Wanted, Khandaani Shafakhana, The Zoya Factor, Laal Kaptaan, Satellite Shankar, The Body and Panipat had horrible collections. Y – YouTube gets conquered by T-Series Bhushan Kumar-owned T-Series won the battle of most-subscribed channel on YouTube as it defeated PewDiePie, run by Felix Kjellberg. The battle got ugly as Felix resorted to racist slurs in a bit to outdo T-Series. It was an online battle that became known all over the world. Z – Zaira Wasim On June 29, talented actor Zaira Wasim announced that she’s quitting films permanently. It led to polarized views; especially since she reasoned that she’s taking the big step as her ‘relationship with her religion was threatened’. She didn’t even promote her film The Sky Is Pink that released on October 11.
Panicatthedisco. Kapre badal karke phirse aa gaye dono. Panipat movie reviews. Panipat trailer reaction. Arjun Kapoor had acted very well. I liked the simplistic and real approach to the movie in today's world of over the top portrayal of hero'tailing is good. First half little lengthy. But then it's Gowarikar. Do not miss this just because of prejudice of certain sections. It's certainly a good movie if not the best.

The film was theatrically released in India on 6 December 2019. [5] [6] The film was unsuccessful at the box office. [7] Plot [ edit] By 1758, the Maratha Empire had reached its peak under the leadership of Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao aka Nana Saheb. Maratha commanders Raghunath Rao, the Peshwa's brother, Shamsher Bahadur, the Peshwa's half-brother, and Sadashiv Rao Bhau, the Peshwa's cousin, defeat the Nizam of Hyderabad and capture their commander of artillery Ibrahim Khan Gardi, with Sadashiv inducting him into the Maratha Army as their commander of artillery. They return home to the Empire's capital at Pune and are welcomed. Due to pressure by his wife Gopika Bai, the Peshwa appoints Sadashiv as the Empire's finance minister in favour of the Peshwa's son Vishwas Rao, which he reluctantly accepts. Sadashiv lists the defaulters who failed to pay taxes to the Maratha Empire on time, and notes that the Rohilla chieftain Najib ad-Dawlah has the largest amount of tax due. Najib, determined to teach the Marathas a lesson, allies himself with Ahmad Shah Abdali, inviting him to Delhi. News of this formidable alliance reaches Pune, along with the news of Dattaji Shinde 's death in battle against Najib. The Peshwa appoints Raghunath Rao as the commander of the Maratha forces which will be dispatched to fight Abdali and defend Delhi. However, Raghunath asks for a large amount of money, which Sadashiv denies, citing the treasury's condition after consecutive battles. Raghunath, therefore, refuses to march north, which leads the Peshwa to appoint Sadashiv as the commander-in-chief of the Maratha army, under the overlordship of Vishwas Rao, the Peshwa's son and heir. The army, along with a large number of non-combatants (women, children and pilgrims), begin their long and arduous journey north. They arrive at Dholpur, where they're welcomed by their fellow Maratha generals— Govind Pant Bundela, Balwant Rao Mehendale, Jankoji Shinde, and the veteran Malhar Rao Holkar. They start making alliances with other kingdoms, including Maharaja Suraj Mal and Nawab Shuja-ud-Daulah, and are successful, with their army size growing to 50000 men. Abdali is also making alliances, taking advantage of the Rajput kings' hatred for the Marathas. Sadashiv and the commanders receive intelligence that Abdali has camped on the other side of the Yamuna and spot Shuja's flags along with Abdali's, revealing that the Nawab had switched allegiance. Due to the heavy rains, the Marathas are unable to build a bridge to cross the Yamuna. Sadashiv decides to march north and capture Delhi and then cross the Yamuna to defeat Abdali. Najib receives intelligence that the Marathas have retreated, from which Abdali deduces that they are marching north to Delhi. He suggests that they also march north and cross the Yamuna. Meanwhile, the Marathas defeat Najib's general and capture Delhi. After finding out the Afghans are chasing the Marathas, Sadashiv decides to strategically capture Kunjpura Fort, which angers Abdali to such an extent that he immediately reacts by crossing the swollen Yamuna in heavy rainfall. This leaves the Maharaja of Patiala, Ala Singh, unable to send his soldiers. Food begins to dwindle, and the Maratha soldiers and civillians are forced to go without food. Although the arrival of King Araadhak Singh provides some relief to the Maratha camp, but soon after camping at Panipat, Abdali catches up with the Marathas and comes face to face. However, after hearing of a possible coup at his capital in Kandahar, Abdali arranges for a truce with Sadashiv but scraps it after the latter doesn't agree with to terms Abdali presents him. After both sides decide strategies and formations, they prepare for the final confrontation. Parvati Bai and the civilians and pilgrims stay at a small camp towards the back, and Vishwas promises Sadashiv that he'll never get off his elephant during the battle for his own protection. Artillery firing begins by both sides, with substantial damage done to Abdali's army due to Ibrahim Khan's leadership. The riflemen also start attacking. The infantry then begin the main attack, with the Marathas doing well. Overcome with fear, many soldiers of Abdali's army retreat, but Abdali threatens them with severe punishment and forces them to return to the battle. Meanwhile, on seeing Shamsher wounded, Vishwas descends from his elephant to protect him. Sadashiv fends off the Afghans who attacked the young prince, but a bullet hits Vishwas on his head, killing him. This is a huge blow to the morale of the Marathas, who begin to lose ground from then. One by one, the Maratha chieftains are either wounded or killed. Araadhak Singh unexpectedly retreats from the battle. It is then revealed that he was angry with the Marathas for the high taxes imposed upon them, so he secretly allied himself with Abdali and passed information onto him. Seeing the tide of the battle turn, Malhar Rao retreats from the battlefield and escorts the non-combatants to safety, as promised to Sadashiv on the eve of the battle. Abdali's soldiers close in on Sadashiv but he bravely fights back, sustaining serious injuries. He eventually succumbs to his wounds and dies, but not before making Abdali aware of his pyrrhic victory. Back in Pune, Parvati Bai dies from grief. Abdali sends the Peshwa a letter, praising Sadashiv's bravery and courage. The epilogue reveals that even though victorious, Abdali never returned to India. Under the leadership of Peshwa Madhav Rao, the generals Mahadaji Shinde and Tukoji Rao Holkar saved the Maratha empire from extinction, and re-captured Delhi ten years later, making the Marathas a dominant force once again. [19] Reception [ edit] Critical reception [ edit] Monika Rawal Kukreja of Hindustan Times wrote "Panipat is an honest attempt at recreating the war that we only read in history books until now. It’s a tribute to the Maratha community in its truest form and even it was shorter by an hour, it could have had the same impact". [20] The Times of India gave 3. 5 out of 5 stars stating "‘Panipat’ delves into a significant chapter in history and is a war drama that lauds the unshakable bravery, courage and the strong principles of the Maratha's". [21] India Today gave 2. 5 out of 5 stars stating "Ashutosh Gowariker may not be able to do grandeur like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, but he can do war. Yet, a lacklustre cinematography and terrible CGI mars this solid attempt. It would have worked 10 years ago". [22] Namrata Joshi of The Hindu wrote "Gowariker may have taken liberties with history, but doesn’t play around with the form. He sticks to the tried and tested, the long and langourous and old-fashioned". [23] Bollywood Hungama gave 3 out of 5 stars stating "PANIPAT throws light on an important chapter of Indian history with the battle scenes as its USP". [24] Zee News gave 3 out of 5 stars stating "The film is a great effort by Gowariker and deserves to be watched for some impeccable performances and adrenaline-pumping action". [25] CNN-News18 gave 2. 5 out of 5 stars stating "Panipat, a film about Maratha warrior Sadashiv Rao Bhau who staves off Afghan ruler Ahmad Shah Abdali, disappoints only because of a linear screenplay that fails to rouse dramatic emotions so important to historicals". [26] NDTV gave 2 out of 5 stars stating "The burden on Arjun Kapoor is too heavy for him though he rises manfully to the challenge. Panipat definitely isn't Mohenjo Daro. But is that saying much? It will take three hours of your life and a whole lot of patience to sit through this laboured film". [27] Deccan Chronicle gave 2. 5 out of 5 stars stating "Directors like Gowariker do no service to the nation or their audience by twisting the truth, ignoring military, diplomatic, common sense follies and rewriting history with jingoistic fervour". [28] BBC News and Al Jazeera reported that the film received criticism from different parts of the world, especially from Afghanistan since Ahmad Shah Abdali is the national hero and the founder of modern day Afghanistan. [29] [30] Afghan viewers pointed that the film's portrayal of Abdali was that of an Arab, rather than an Afghan. Critics linked the rising number of Bollywood films with negative Muslim characters, such as the portrayal of Alauddin Khilji as a cruel and vicious ruler in the film Padmaavat, as an attempt by the industry executives to align with India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, a Hindu nationalist party led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. [29] The Panipat trailer depicted Ahmed Shah Durrani as ruthless and brutal ruler [31] and Afghans as 'battle-hardened, blood-thirsty savages'. [32] While the film presented Marathas as 'sophisticated and righteous'. [32] Consul General of Afghanistan in Mumbai, Naseem Sharifi, said that 'Afghans would not tolerate any insult to Ahmad Shah Durrani'. Afghan journalists stated that the film will create more Islamophobia and racism towards Afghans. The Telegraph India reported that films like Padmaavat (2018), Kesari (2019) and Panipat have stereotyped and vilified Afghans as brutal, cold-blooded and treacherous. [33] Afghanistan's Ambassador to India, Tahir Qadiri, claimed that he was in contact with Indian officials and have shared the Afghan concerns with them. Ajmal Alamzai, cultural attache at the Afghan embassy in New Delhi, claimed that he had made several unsuccessful attempts to contact the director of the film. Pajhwok Afghan News reported that the Panipat film trailer depicted the Maratha Empire as victorious in the Third Battle of Panipat despite the fact that it was Ahmad Shah Durrani, who had won the battle. [34] Khaama Press, another Afghan newspaper, reported that some Afghan social media users have welcomed the film as reality while others criticised it and claimed that parts of history has been forged in favour of specific groups. [35] Box office [ edit] Panipat ' s opening day domestic collection was ₹ 4. 12 crore. On the second day, the film collected ₹5. 78 crore. On the third day, the film collected ₹7. 78 crore, taking the total opening weekend collection to ₹17. 68 crore. [3] As of 10 January 2020, with a gross of ₹ 40. 81 crore in India and ₹ 8. 48 crore overseas, the film has a worldwide gross collection of ₹ 49. 29 crore.
